| Apart from the Humans, Elves are perhaps the best known of the many races, and yet are often misunderstood. It is believed they are the oldest of all the mortal races. All Elves however share some common traits. | |||
| Elves overall tend to be slightly taller than the average Human, Elves are also noticeably more slender and graceful, averaging between 5 to 6 feet and 95 to 135 pounds. Males are slightly more muscular on average. Their features in general may be described as more angular and defined; including long, pointed ears and wide, almond-shaped eyes. Most Elves have fair skin and dark hair, though this is no truer of all Elves than it is of Humans. They have a reputation for careful grooming; more so than perhaps any other race. This frequently extends to their clothing, which is luxurious and well-kept, though not to the point of impracticality. | |||
| Elves do not sleep as most other creatures do, instead falling into a four-hour restful trance. Consequently, Elves are unaffected by sleep-inducing spells and effects, and are able to remain active far longer than other races. Elves also do not age as other creatures, looking exactly as their 25 to 30 year-old selves until close to death. Elves do grow physically weaker and mentally stronger as they grow older. Elves know no sickness or disease. Living in harmony with nature, Elves find solace. They are mostly a peaceful people, seeking no harm to those who do them no harm. But, to those who oppose the Elves, an anger and fury is awakened that could surely make the most hardy shake in his boots. Beneath the soft exterior of the Elves; beyond their songs of peace and tranquility, there are skilled archers, powerful users of magic and deadly warriors. There is no more revered friend than an Elf, but likewise, no foe is feared more than a vengeful Elf. | |||
| Elves have different sub-races, ethnic groups each with
their own cultural traditions. Each Elf is an individual, and as such
each has his or her own personality. However, each but tend to follow
certain social norms as described here. The most common and better
known are; Gray, High, Wood and Drow. |
|||
| -Grey
Elves- Many of the Grey Elves take pride in purity of their blood as such they can be seen a bigoted yet Grey Elves are generous and polite considering themselves as guardians of virtue and righteousness. The Grey Elves frequently dedicate their energy to the pursuit of knowledge and the protection of all elvenkind. The Grey Elves build great cities and kingdoms apart from the Human realms yet often deal with them as nations often do with one another. The Grey Elves are the most common sort of Elf known to Human kind. |
|||
| -High
Elves- (Eladrin) High Elves, also called Eladrin by their kin, are as the name suggests are tall, slender Elves who are graceful and regal. High Elves live apart from all others in isolated, monastic like communities. They are strong warriors and mages, and have a high capacity for intelligence. They maintain the heightened agility that is common for their race. The High Elves have a dethatched view of reality, believing, in their long lives, that events happening in mere years could be substantial and influence the world. The High Elves are the ones who tap deeper into the elves’ legacy of magic. Few have ever met a High Elf as they live such secluded and secret lives. |
|||
| -Wood
Elves-(Taure Nosse) Wood Elves, also known some Humans as Sylvan or Forest Elves are easily the most populous of the races of Elves. They are easily distinguishable by their coppery skin; brown, hazel or green eyes, and dark hair. They are generally calm, and very level-headed people; not the kind to quickly get emotionally agitated. The Wood Elves live simple lives in their forest home, dealing with other races only as is necessary. They have little passion for urbanization and civilization, seeing most societies as indefinite and impermanent. At a distance the lone Wood Elf may be mistaken for a Human Ranger, many are Rangers themselves. |
|||
| -Drow- The Drow Elves were banished to the subterranean Underdark after the Kinslaying which divided the Elven races. They are unlike other elvenkind that a Drow would find it insulting to be called any sort of Elf at all. The Drow are the only Elves that are inherently evil, in a general sense. They live in great cities under the surface and, are to most surface dwellers, as bad a sight as the very demons from the Nine Hells. So different are the Drow they are considered a separate race. |

|||
| As recorded earlier the Gray, High, Wood and Drow Elves differences aside are very similar. Biologically they differ only in appearance, Drow by far being the most different with their silvery to dark skin and grey to white hair. The Grey and Wood elves are so similar ethnically that they are more frequently distinguished by their behavior then appearance. The separation between Grey and Wood elves is normally one of lifestyle and culture then of ethnic appearances. Both tend to make homes close to one another there is frequent, by Elven standers at least, mixing of the two. Additionally Grey and Wood Elves combined account for the great majority of the Elven population in total. | |||
| As well as the Drow, there exist other rare groups of Elves that are so different they are considered separate races. They are counted as part of the greater elvenkind more out of their similar appearance and cultural traditions then a pure biological connection. Their numbers are few that many are thought to be nothing more than myth. There are some scholars that do not consider them to be Elves at all. | |||
| -
Aquatic Elves- Aquatic Elves or Sea Elves have adapted completely to their underwater home, and rarely venture to land, if at all. They cavort among the whales, befriending marine animals with as much ease as their land bound cousins do with surface species. Like the whales they can stay submerged for long periods of time, but must now and again surface for air. They are said to be friendly and open, shouldering the responsibility of keeping the oceans safe from the encroachment of evil. |
|||
| -
Avariel Elves- The Avariel or Winged Elves are very rare since they have been hunted nearly to extinction by various other creatures, frequently dragons. The Avariel make their homes in open areas, and take immense joy in flying. They absolutely abhor and detest being inside, underground, or otherwise restricted from the open sky. |
|||
| -
Lythari- The Lythari are a sub race of Elves who can transform into wolves. Unlike human Lycans, they can transform at will and keep their minds while in wolf form. In their Elven form they are tall and slender Elves looking very much like High Elves. Like the High Elves they live apart from all others in isolated communities. |
|||
| -Sand
Elves- (Litsehi) The Sand or Desert Elves are the usually nomadic inhabitants of the deep desert regions. They are to the deserts what the Wood Elves are to the forests, but not nearly as numerous. The Sand Elves normally have dark skin, dark hair and eyes common to dwellers of such places. They are often suspicious of outsiders and quick to anger though not normally hostile if left unprovoked. They are otherwise very much like the majority of elvenkind. |
|||
| -Snow
Elves- (Losagwaithi) The Snow or Ice Elves are so rare and live is such cold and remote places that almost nothing is know of them. Some think them only myth, others say they are a sub-race of goblin and not Elves at all. Even the wisest of Elven scholars can not say with any certainty. |
